TIPS
How to maintain your bearings
All bearings eventually get full of dirt and gunk from being exposed to dusty skate parks, roads or footpath. Regular maintenance is necessary for you to keep your bearings going fast and being smooth.
What you'll need
First you'll need a skate tool or a 1/2 inch wrench to take off the wheels.
Monkey wrench is also ok. You'll also need a sharp knife to take the caps off, a container with lid to put the solvent in with all the dismantled bearing, paper towels and lubricant like the PROTECTA skate Lub we sell.
How to
The first step is taking off the wheels. Take off the axle nuts and make sure you
keep all the nuts and speed washers together.
Second step you have to take the bearings out of the wheels. you can easily do so using the axle of the truck. Use it like you'd be using a bottle opener. POP!
Once you have all of the bearings out, remove the bearing shields.
This makes it easier for the solvent to rinse out all the dirt, sand and grease.
Fill your small container with about 1 inch of cleaning products / solvent.
Drop the bearings in and swish them around lid on.
Solvents work great because they disintegrate grease, remove dirt, and evaporate on their own. You can use citrus base cleaners too but you'll need extra care when cleaning as it is not as good as chemical products.
Take the cap off and gently lay the bearings out onto a paper towel.
To get the excess solvent out smack the bearings on a paper towel with the exposed side down.
Let the solvent evaporate for couple of minutes and Voila! The bearings should be like new!
Now, put 3 drops of lube into the bearings and give them a gentle spin to spread it evenly throughout the bearing.
Time to now put the bearings back all together. Gently press down on the shield until it clicks back into place and you are done.
